How to get your site indexed fast

Please bear with me reading this post it will be a necessarily long one. I don't want to skimp on the details. Okay here is the plan on how to get a new website indexed fast. First of all as I said in the last post I recommend not submitting to search engines. What you should do instead is get a small amount of links from other sites with high link popularity.

A websites link popularity is measured by its google pagerank (pr) number. Every site on the internet will have a pagerank from 0 to 10 with 10 being the most popular (in other words google and yahoo). Your goal should be getting links from websites with a pagerank of 5 or higher to get listed quickly. The reason for this is that the search engine spiders crawl those popular sites frequently and will follow links to your pages. Once they crawl them you will be listed in a matter of a few days.

So where do you go to get links? The fastest and easiest way is to use social bookmarking. You can find a list of the top 30 bookmarking sites with the highest pagerank here.

An alternative to using social bookmarks is to set up a few blogs with a link back to your site. You can get a free blog at blogger.com and wordpress.com. You can also build a lens at squidoo.com to get a high quality link. A squidoo lens is very simaler to a blog. You then want to write several posts and ping your blog or lens at pingomatic.com. Doing that will get the blog as well as your website crawled and indexed fast.

If you have a small site with only a few pages then having a few links will be plenty to get indexed. If you have a big website with humdreds of pages you will need a different strategy and it will take a little more work, a few extra links and more time to get completely indexed.

There are other excellent ways to build links but to start out I recommend using those two methods.

For larger sites I recommend using a method called deep linking. Instead of having links just to your home page you link to other pages on your site as well. You don't necessarily have to link to every page. If your pages are well interlinked a small handfull of deep links will usually work wonders. If after a few deep links you don't get completely indexed then you can just link to some of the pages that aren't listed yet. This method is very effective for sites up to a few hundred pages.

If you have a really big site with hundreds to thousands of pages in addition to deep linking you should consider adding a sitemap. A sitemap is basically a directory page on your site with links to all your pages that helps the search engine spiders find all the pages and crawl it completely. You can find a free sitemap generator for up to 500 pages at xml-sitemaps.com. There is a more comprehensive guide to making a sitemap that can be found here.

One final thing I just want to say about linking to new sites is it's important not to overdo it. Search engines Google especially does not like to see a lot of links to brand new websites. You want to grow your number of links nice and slowly in a way that looks natural. For at least 6 months you don't want to have more than 100 total links. Any more than that will be a red flag to Google.

Also like many webmasters who want to rank high for a specific keyword phrase the temptation is to make every link text the same. It is also very important to vary the link text to make it look natural to google. For example if your website is about music you want a few links to be music and maybe some to be "mp3 music" and some to be "country music" and so on.

The plan I just gave here is very ethical and works well. Anyone who follows it will not be in any danger of having their site penalized in google, yahoo or msn.

I recommend you don't submit to search engines

One common mistake a webmaster with a brand new website should avoid doing in my opinion is to submit to search engines. Admittedly there is some debate about that. There are a couple of reasons why I'm taking this side of the issue. First of all it can take weeks before the search engines will send their spiders to crawl your pages. Most people would like to get listed quicker than that. Secondly search engines will likely see your site of lesser value if you submit to them and probably not index it as well. It is understandable to want to get a search engine listing fast but search engine submission is not the way to do it.

The way to get a new site listed fast in search engines is to get a small handfull of links from other websites that have a lot of link popularity. The reason I say only a handfull of links is because any new website that has a lot of links appears unnatural and spammy to Google and will likely get it penalized. In the next post I will cover exactly how to do this to get listed fast and how to make the linking look natural so you won't have to worry about penalties.

Good Content To Increase Traffic

If you want to get droves of traffic to your site it is important to begin with having quality content that is unique and original. Having information that people reading your pages will find helpful or interesting will do several things for you.

1. It will get other webmasters to link to you. That alone will bring in some direct traffic.

2. Search engines will pay more attention to your site because of the links you get from #1. Even more traffic will result.

3. People will tell others about your website if the content is great. Word of mouth can be a very powerful traffic builder.

4. Visitors will keep returning if you have quality information and especially if you can update it frequently with more helpful articles.

5. Good content that gives visitors value will help you stand out from other sites that either are duplicate content or spam and might not offer any real value.

While most content is usually text it doesn't necessarily have to be. It can be interesting pictures, videos or anything that other people will find useful. For example Dane Carlson has a neat tool that bloggers can use to learn the value of their blogs. You can see it here. That simple tool has helped make his site popular with bloggers and it is ranked number one in google for the term "how much is my blog worth" which no doubt brings in a lot of traffic.

So whether it be text or something else your content should be something that offers value to other people and be unique. If you have that you will find getting visitors to be much easier.

There are some kinds of websites that may not be able to have unique content on them such as some ecommerce and affiliate websites. They are more difficult to get some types of traffic to such as from organic SEO and return visitors but there are still other effective means to generate visitors to them as well. So if you have a website where you can't control the content there are still many options for you.

There are many excellent websites that deserve to get traffic but don't. The basic problem is that there are billions of pages online all competing for a limited amount of traffic. It's basic supply and demand. While the amount of overall internet traffic and searches keeps increasing the number of web pages increase at an much greater rate.

Many have tried to attract traffic by offering high quality content. The theory is that if you build high quality content you will build traffic simply by your visitors telling their friends how great it is so they will visit and so on. This strategy does actually work sometimes. A good example of a blog that became popular due to its exceptional content is stevepavlina.com. That case is very rare though and for the vast majority of webmasters who want visitors they will have to do some marketing and promotion.

If At First You Dont Succeed...

I know it's rather cliche but I am one person who believes in it when it comes to making money through my blogs. IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED, TRY AND TRY AND TRY AGAIN :)

One blog monetization method that I had given up earlier on was Adsense. However, I started using Adsense on my blogs again beginning of June and have been experimenting using the "Channels" feature. I must say with this feature, it is wonderful to be able to know which blog is doing better than the other and which ad placement is making more money. From there, I know which ad should remain on my blogs and which one should be taken away.

To me, my Adsense income earning is still considered very little but it is definitely picking up fast. In fact, the earning on this blog itself is better than what I would have earned from Nuffnang and Advertlets put together. So, if you guys wanna put up adverts on your blogs, I'd suggest you try to dabble with Adsense and see whether it works for you.

Full Feed Vs Partial Feed

Partial Feed may not be the best option.
First of all, it may discourage readers to subscribe. On the other hand, I will get more traffic from other readers as they need to visit my blog to read the full article. Heck, I confessed, I love visitors as I get to interact with them when they comment. Secondly, partial feeds discourage content stealing. I know plagiarism will still happen with or without partial feeds but at least it makes it harder for these people to do so (as compared to using full feeds).

There's a lot of debate on the net about whether to go for partial or full feeds but for the time being, I think I am more inclined towards partial. Let's hear what some of you prefer. Full feed or Partial Feed?

DO YOU? I have often read about the fact that one needs to enjoy blogging, rather than have the main intention to start a blog for the sole purpose of earning money. Previously, when I read such post, my first thought was "That's totally crap!" If you have the same thought, I definitely will not blame you.

I started to blog coz I was bored and wanted share what I have learnt from the networld.My blog was my journal to chart my experience in this world. That was more than 2 years ago and back then, I had no idea what Google Adsense was or what blog monetization was. Then, when I learnt a thing or two about blogging for money, the temptation of earning more and more lead me to start other blog.

However, as time goes by, I turn to niche blogging and began to enjoy blogging more and more. This very blog started because I wanted to share some basic knowledge of earning through blogging with those bloggers who have the same passion. My other blog, Playing Is Fun-Check These Games Out! has evolved and I finally found the niche that I enjoy. I am now a self confessed blogging addict but I have truly benefited so much from this passion. I have people writing to me to do product reviews, website reviews and even book reviews. It is a personal satisfaction to be approached for reviews from total strangers.

Ok, I am beginning to digress.....the point I am trying to make is having a passion for blogging will be the greatest motivation for one to generate quality posts. Pay is $10 per 1,000 page views on your posts (that's excellent pay for Web writing, although there's no telling how much traffic/money you'll actually get).

Write your own blog.

You don't have to have your own Web site, or install blogging software, or even figure out how to set up the advertising. At Blogger you can set up a blog for free in less than five minutes without knowing a thing about web design, and Blogger even automates setting up Google AdSense so you can make money off your blog by displaying ads and getting paid when people click on the ads. To make even more money from it, set up an affiliate program (see below) for books, music, etc., and insert your affiliate links whenever you refer to those items. You'll have to get a lot of traffic to become a six-figure blogger, but pick an interesting topic, write well, tell all your friends, and you're off to a good start.

Advertise other people's products.

If you already have a Web site or a blog, look for vendors that offer related but non-competing products and see if they have an affiliate program. Stick to familiar products and brands - they're easier to sell. To promote those products:

Place simple text or graphical ads in appropriate places on your site
Include links to purchase products you review or recommend in a blog, discussion forum or mailing list you control
Create a dedicated sales page or Web site to promote a particular product

They all work - it just depends on how much time you have to spend on it and your level of expertise with Web design and marketing.

The above list is by no means comprehensive, but it highlights some of the new and interesting ways to make money online without investing any money, without having a product of your own, and without having expert sales and marketing skills. Most of all, unlike taking surveys or getting paid to read e-mail, the potential return on your time investment is substantial.
